The Pilates Method – Contrology (The Art of Control)

In short, Pilates is a system of exercises that combine flexibility, strength and control. The entire method is based on the 6 principles: Concentration, Control, Centering, Flow, Precision and Breathing.

Joseph Pilates was able to bring together his deep understanding of the body and the knowledge about how to overcome his own weaknesses and strengthen the body. His system of exercising, which he used to call the Art of Control, has shown results over the past 100 years; he proved to be a true visionary with a Zeitgeist that has stood the test of time.

The Pilates method is based on the power of resistance through work with springs and opposition. This enables the body to build lean and light muscles compared to working with weights. Implemented by a pure Pilates trainer, the method is efficient in transforming any type of body in a short amount of time.

Romana’s Pilates is the company formed by Romana and Sari who both trained closely with Joseph and Clara Pilates for decades, to continue Pilates’ work – you can’t get much closer to the roots of Pilates than that!

Everyone studying Pilates today can trace their roots back to Romana in one way or another. As a matter of fact, either their teacher, or their teacher’s teacher or their teacher’s teachers’ teacher was trained with or by Romana.
